Steamers can remove bad odors and kill bacteria to refresh home textiles and upholstery.

Using a steamer to clean and refresh textiles is an eco-friendly alternative to washing them frequently, which can damage the fibers and fade the colors. Additionally, steam cleaning can be done quickly and easily without the need for harsh chemicals or detergents.

3. Air Fresheners

Air Fresheners

Air fresheners are consumer products that typically emit fragrance and are used in homes or commercial interiors such as restrooms, foyers, hallways, vestibules, and other smaller indoor areas, as well as larger areas such as hotel lobbies, auto dealerships, medical facilities, public arenas, and other large interior spaces. Car fresheners are used in automobiles. As a source of odors, specific deodorizing blocks are made for toilets and urinals.

There are many different methods and brands of air fresheners. Some of the different types of air fresheners include electric fan air fresheners, gravity drip hygiene odor control cleaning systems, passive non-mechanical evaporating aroma diffusers, metered aerosol time-operated mist dispensers, sprays, candles, oils, gels, beads, and plug-ins.

Some air fresheners contain chemicals that provoke allergy and asthma symptoms or are toxic. Air freshening is not only limited to modern-day sprays, air freshening also can involve the use of organic and everyday household items. Although air fresheners are primarily used for odor elimination, some people use air fresheners for the pleasant odors they emit.

4. Rubbing alcohol

Alcohol Cleaning Product

Rubbing alcohol is either isopropyl alcohol or an ethanol-based liquid, with isopropyl alcohol products being the most widely available.
Rubbing alcohol is denatured and undrinkable, even if it is ethanol-based, due to the bitterants added.
They are liquids used primarily as topical antiseptics. The term “rubbing alcohol” in North American English is a general term for either isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) or ethyl alcohol (ethanol) products. Individual manufacturers are permitted to use their own formulation standards, in which the ethanol content for retail bottles of rubbing alcohol is labeled and ranges from 70 to 99% v/v. All rubbing alcohols are unsafe for human consumption: isopropyl rubbing alcohols do not contain the ethyl alcohol of alcoholic beverages; ethyl rubbing alcohols are based on denatured alcohol, which is a combination of ethyl alcohol and one or more bitter poisons that make the substance toxic.

5. Saddle soap

Saddle soap is a compound used for cleaning, conditioning, and protecting leather. It typically contains mild soap, softening ingredients such as lanolin, and preservatives such as beeswax. It is commonly used on leather footwear, saddles, and other items of horse tack, hence its name.

6. Toilet cleaner

Toilet cleaning process

These cleaners are formulated to remove tough stains and kill bacteria, leaving your toilet bowl clean and fresh. It is important to follow the instructions carefully and use protective gloves when handling these chemicals.

Usage of toilet cleaners:

Toilet cleaner is sprayed around the rim and into the bowl of the toilet prior to the use of the toilet brush. The toilet brush is used to scrub the toilet, removing stubborn stains and biological debris. In recent times, automatic toilet bowl cleaners that clip onto the rim of the toilet and clean with every flush have also become prevalent. Toilet cleaners tend to be toxic, as they contain disinfectants that can cause skin irritations. [ 1] “Heavy duty” formulations often include hydrochloric acid (HCl) in varying amounts, necessitating care in handling and storage as well as adequate ventilation while in use.

Some alternative options for toilet cleaning include using natural cleaners such as vinegar or baking soda, or investing in a self-cleaning toilet that uses electrolyzed water to sanitize the bowl after each use. These options can be less harmful to both the environment and personal health.

7. Gas Duster

Spray Duster

A gas duster, also known as canned air or compressed air, is a product used for cleaning or dusting electronic equipment and other sensitive devices that cannot be cleaned using water. This type of product is most often packaged as a can that, when a trigger is pressed, blasts a stream of compressed gas through a nozzle at the top. Despite the names “canned air” or “compressed air”, the cans do not actually contain air (i.e., they do not contain O2 or N2 gases) but rather other gases that are compressible into liquids. True liquid air is not practical, as it cannot be stored in metal spray cans due to extreme pressure and temperature requirements. When inhaled, gas duster fumes may produce psychoactive effects and be harmful to health, sometimes even causing death.

Therefore, it is important to use gas dusters in well-ventilated areas and avoid inhaling the fumes. Additionally, proper disposal of gas dusters is crucial to prevent environmental harm.

Car Gas and Air Duster

Usage:

Canned air can be used for cleaning dust off surfaces such as keyboards, as well as sensitive electronics in which moisture is not desired. When using canned air, it is recommended to not hold the can upside down, as this can result in spraying liquid onto the surface. The liquid, when released from the can, boils at a very low temperature, rapidly cooling any surface it touches.[3] This can cause mild to moderate frostbite on contact with the skin, especially if the can is held upside down. Also, the can gets very cold during extended use; holding the can itself can result in cold burns.

A dust spray can often be used as a freeze spray. One example of this practice is the case of airsoft gas guns, which use HFC-134a as the compressed gas. Several vendors sell “duster adapters” for use with airsoft guns, though it is necessary to add a lubricant when using gas dusters to power airsoft guns.

8. Bluing (fabric)

bluing products image

Bluing, laundry blue, dolly blue, or washing blue is a household product used to improve the appearance of textiles, especially white fabrics. Used during laundering, it adds a trace of blue dye (often synthetic ultramarine, sometimes Prussian blue) to the fabric.

Usage:

White fabrics acquire a slight color cast after use (usually gray or yellow). Since blue and yellow are complementary colors in the subtractive color model of color perception, adding a trace of blue to the slightly off-white color of these fabrics makes them appear whiter. Many white fabrics are blued during manufacturing. A commercial bluing product allows the consumer to add the bluing back into the fabric to restore whiteness. On the same principle, bluing is sometimes used by white-haired people in a blue rinse. In Australia, it was used as a folk remedy to relieve the itching of mosquito and sandfly bites. Laundry bluing is made of a colloid of ferric ferrocyanide (blue iron salt, also referred to as “Prussian blue”) in water. Blue colorings have been added to rinse water for centuries, first in the form of powder blue or smalt, or using small lumps of indigo and starch, called stone blue.

9. Liquid-Plumr

Liquid Plumr

Liquid-Plumr is a chemical drain opener made of 0.5–2% sodium hydroxide and 5–10% sodium hypochlorite and a surfactant, produced by Clorox. The product is safe for septic systems, PVC, plastic, and copper pipes, although it is not recommended for and can damage rubber piping.

The Liquid-Plumr products have a child-resistant closure that prevents leaking and potential harm. However, in 2016, Clorox issued a voluntary recall on products sold before March 21, 2016, due to failures with the child-resistant closure, affecting about 5.4 million units with no injuries reported.
